The Russel Sisters

The Russel Sisters - Isabella

The Russel Sisters

A quick look at the original samplers and we can be quite certain Isabella and M. were sisters and may very well have stitched these together. Both marked them with their village of Eddleston(e) in Scotland, but most of all, they are so very similar in many ways - color, pattern, layout, stitches, etc.

Isabella’s is the larger, more complex sampler and we might assume she was the older sister. She stitched on higher count linen and added more specialty stitches (eyelets, rice, 4-sided, and backstitching); the model is stitched using over-dye cottons. ‘M’ includes fewer of all of these on a larger count fabric; I used silks here. DMC options are included to assist with floss selections. Each sampler is full of color and interesting patterns - and I’m thrilled to share them with you.

Both samplers are included in this large format book, so choose your favorite - or both - to stitch.
